Why it started
The idea of natural deodorant started in 2018 when I am exposed to this DIY class where me and my sister make natural homemade shampoo, cleansing gel, moisturiser, deodorant and etc. As me and my sister have been using off-the-shelf deodorant for the past 10 years, all the way back when we were still studying until we are working. After research, I found out that body odor is actually the bacteria on the skin digesting bodily fluids. We’re familiar with that reaction in our underarms, and it actually happens everywhere on our body.
What worse when I found out how damaging is the deodorant off the shelf that is made of aluminiumwhich pinch the sweat glands in your armpit, interfering with the natural function of sweating. Sweating is a critical function of the immune system, it’s the way your body eliminates toxins.
Started Experimenting
Through trial and error, I finally manage to formulate all natural ingredients deodorant, free from :-
- Parabens
- Phthalates
- Sulfates
- Silicones
- Petro-chemicals
- Synthetic fragrances
- Synthetic dyes
I started to share the natural deodorants to my family and friends, from their feedback I further improve the ingredients. As time goes by, through words of mouth, more of my friends’ friends started to enquire how to buy my natural deodorant. In early 2019, I started selling to my friends and family in the form cream type.
And from my friends’ feedback, they would prefer Deodorant stick type instead of Deodorant cream type as it is more convenience to use while they are outside. 40g is ideal as it is easy to carry around as well.
Launching Own Brand
In 2020, after MCO, I realise I need to scale this business further, as there is limitation on the quantity of natural deodorant I can make in a day. And the cost of natural ingredients are expensive if I buy in small quantity. With the help of my husband, we created this brand Lurvee.
